In February 2024, Microsoft announced plans for deprecation of the ApplicationImpersonation role in EWS as described in the Critical Update below:
As a result, all Symprex on-premise applications are replacing existing access using the Application Impersonation role by moving to the full_access_as_app permission, ensuring access to all mailboxes without requiring permissions to be explicitly set on each mailbox.
Using full_access_as_app through a delegated user account would require explicit permissions to be granted access to all mailboxes, and would need to grant the delegated user access to any new mailboxes created after initial setup.
Previously, this was achieved using a delegated permission due to the ability to configure access as a specific user in combination with the ApplicationImpersonation role.
Version 10 of Email Signature Manager, Folder Permissions Manager, Out of Office Manager and version 9 of Out of Office Extender were released in September 2024, allowing customers with maintenance agreements to upgrade and utilise the latest authentication mechanism.
These can be downloaded from www.symprex.com/download/ - installation / upgrade can be completed on an existing instance of any of the Symprex tools. Existing authentication will continue to function until disabled by Microsoft.
For customers without a maintenance agreement, please contact our sales team at [email protected] to discuss this. Licence keys are restricted to major version numbers, so must be updated to activate the software.
