Scenario
You have a working installation of Email Signature Manager that you want to move to a different server.
Solution
Follow the steps below to move Email Signature Manager from the old server to the new server.
Move shares and files from old to new server
If the old server has any network shares used for images or agent deployment:
- Re-create the network shares on the new server
- Copy files from the old network shares to the new network shares
- Update your signature templates to use images from the new network shares
- Update any other scripts or policies, for example for agent deployment, to use the new network shares
Stop services on old server
On the old server:
- Open Services from Administrative Tools in Windows
- Stop the service Symprex Email Signature Manager Service
- Stop the service Symprex Email Signature Manager Client Access Service
Move database from old to new server
On the old server:
- Open Email Signature Manager
- Click the Configuration tab in the ribbon
- Select the Database page in the backstage
- Click the Settings Database button
- In the Settings Database dialog, confirm if Email Signature Manager is using the Built-in Database or a database on SQL Server
If Email Signature Manager is using the Built-in Database:
- Close Email Signature Manager
- Copy the file C:\ProgramData\Symprex\Symprex.EmailSignatureManager.Database.mdb from the old server to the same location on the new server
If Email Signature Manager is using a database on SQL Server:
- If the old server is also running SQL Server, and this also needs to be moved to a new server, then move the database to a new SQL Server
Install and configure on new server
On the new server:
- Install Email Signature Manager
- Start Email Signature Manager and connect to the database
- Click Update All in the ribbon to make Email Signature Manager process all users
Remove old installation
On the old server:
- Open Email Signature Manager
- Select the Configuration tab in the ribbon
- Select the Configuration page in the backstage
- Click the Deployment Options button
- In the Deployment Options dialog, select the Client Access Service tab
- Under Service Connection Point, click the Delete button
- Confirm you want to delete the Service Connection Point in Active Directory
- Test the Email Signature Manager Agent connects to the new server
- Close Email Signature Manager
- Uninstall Email Signature Manager
