This article describes the symptoms and cause of a known issue where an unexpected error occurs in Email Signature Manager when trying to open a template for editing. This article also describes the resolution for this issue.
An unexpected error occurs in Email Signature Manager when trying to open a template for editing:
Message: Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))
Error Code: 0x80040154 (-2147221164)
Error Description: <Message not available for error 0x80040154>
The Email Signature Manager HTML editor is implemented using a Microsoft component and there is a problem with the registration of this component in Windows.
If you are using Email Signature Manager version 7, upgrading to version 7.0.3 or later will resolve this issue.
If you are using Email Signature Manager version 5/6, follow these steps to resolve this issue:
- Open the Windows Control Panel and uninstall the DHTML Editing Component.
- Reboot the machine.
- Reinstall the DHTML Editing Component from this link:
The problem is resolved as described above.
The problem no longer occurs when using Email Signature Manager 7.0.3 and later.
