SUMMARY
This article describes the symptoms and cause of a known issue with Exchange Server 2010 SP3 RU1 which means third-party transport agents continually crashes. This article also describes the resolution for this issue.
SYMPTOMS
Following installation of Exchange Server 2010 SP3 RU1, the Email Signature Manager Transport Agent stops working, and the following error is logged:
Exception #1 (System.NullReferenceException): Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Transport.Email.PureTnefMessage.Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Transport.Email.IBody.GetContentWriteStream(Charset charset)
at Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Transport.Email.MimeTnefMessage.Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Transport.Email.IBody.GetContentWriteStream(Charset charset)
at Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Transport.Email.EmailMessage.Body_GetContentWriteStream(Charset charset)
CAUSE
This problem occurs consistently with Exchange Server 2010 SP3 RU1 because of a problem with a library included with the update.
RESOLUTION
Install Exchange Server 2010 SP3 Update Rollup 2 (RU2) or newer.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Exchange Server 2010 SP3 RU1.
The problem is resolved as described above.
